This collaboration between The Chieftains is genius. Many big names that aren’t credited in the songs will surprise you, such as Van Morrison singing Shenandoah. You get a real sense of the Irish struggle in the new land, which they thought they had left behind along with the famine...along the way, the Irish endured, then later triumphed, becoming such an integral part of their adopted country that they became cliches for “cop” political institutions (Tammany Hall) and decades later rose to the highest office in the land. The music is lush, by turns somber then sprightly which reminds us that the Irish spirit is indomitable. And Thank God for that!
