I just stumbled across this album in the "New and Noteworthy" section. Usually that's filled with mainstream BS but I'd never heard of MinsOne so I gave it a try. Anyways, I'm extremely impressed and definitely found a gem. Definitely going to check out their previous releases.

"Self Reliance" is a highly conceptual project which focuses on bringing the listener closer to their own reality and the world that surrounds us all. Ranging from satirical insights on financial woes to calls for greater social awareness and standing strong in the face of devastating loss, whether its the love of HipHop or the love of life, "Self Reliance" takes its hold. True school production, top to bottom. Oddisee, Kev Brown, Kon Sci, brilliant. Vivid lyrical genius. Cop this album.

Every facet of this album is incredible. Been waiting for awhile, but you know what? It was worth it. Hip Hop is back! There is a difference between Hip-Hop and what I like to call Hip-POP. Hip-Hop is the culture, the music, the dancing, the lifestyle. Hip-POP is all surface and absolutely NO substance what-so-ever. If you grew up with ATCQ, De La Soul, Jungle Brother's, Mos Def, The Roots, etc. You MUST, not should, buy this album. No more HIP-POP! Repeat after me...NO MORE HIP-POP!!! No more AutoTune! Just say no. Say yes to the rich history of Hip-HOP! Shout out to DJ Noumenon aka Brotha Noumsy, J Smoke, DJ Excess, Rob Swift, DJ Spictakular, the whole Scratch Academy! This is by far one of the best Hip-Hop albums to drop in a LONG time...and I mean a looooooooooong time! Kudos to you!
