Okay, so I'm quite late to thy Coheed and Cambria train, but I feel that since that is thy case, I can look at this with eyes that don't find this too jarring of a sound, since I started with Afterman, and due to that, I'd have to say this is one of my favourite Co&Ca albums, at least top 4, but I will admit that a lot of thy issues people have with this album exist, I dont feel that it kills thy album very much at all.

Coheed is my favorite band so it pains me to say this album is crap. I love their previous albums and have enjoyed their albums that followed black rainbow. I used to think I would listen to an album of them doing nothing but farting on the microphone but now I know that to be false... Because that's exactly what this album is. I'm not sure which is worse, the songwriting or the production. They're just horrifically bad songs recorded and produced in an equally terrible manner. It honestly makes me angry that numerous people, including the band, the producers, the engineers, mixers, and record label, never pulled the plug in order to save humanity from this garbage. Shame on all of you.

I love this album..when it comes to saying this isnt coheed or it's different than the other albums..well in writing music and playin music their all still the same people..music(really rock) is made for expressing yourself, feelings Ect. so I think it's great when the sound and writings of the music are changed..it shows the growing of the band and the writter itself..its boring when a band is always writting about 1 or things and never change up the sound!!

Sounds like Sony wanted to pull something out of the oven before it was done cooking. The songs are empty (compared to previous tracks). They lack the depth that we've grown to love. I can't bring myself to ignore the album, but I look forward to a rebound.

No this isn't Coheed's best. Is it any good? No, not really haha. What makes it fun to listen to though is the fact that it ISN'T anything like coheed. They almost took a break with this album to make something different- like an experiment. It isn't for the people who like their other stuff so much as it is for the ones who like their other stuff but are willing to mess around with this album. It's interesting because it's so noisy. I don't like noisy, but i like this album. Why? Cause it's coheed and it's fun IF you give it a chance. AND with their new album, "The Afterman" coming to completion with the release of Descension coming in less than a week, we ALL realize that this was a mistake. They are now back to their "old ways". Why not make it a fun one though? ;) I hated this album for two years only to start liking it after the beginning of Fall semester 2012.

This is truly an amazing album... Comes very close to the afterman. Made out of nothing is absolutely my favorite song on the album, it helped me through the toughest breakup of my life.
  • Possibly there best

I want to start by saying I have been a fan of these guys since the beginning and have loved everything they have done. I bought this album and wanted to listen to it 25 times before reviewing it so I could really get to know it in depth. This is there best album to date. I'm not sure what that other reviewer was smoking, but this album has depth; It's layered beautifully with great vocals and great instrumental work. There is no such thing as a band of this caliber being too self indulgent as the other reviewer stated. Bands like Coheed&Cambria, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, etc. are supposed to produce complex albums. I will stick to my guns that reviews should not be allowed on the first day an album is released and should not be allowed by people who only previewed the album (don't kid yourself it happens all the time) without buying it. If you like truly like Coheed and Cambria then you will love this album after you get to know it.

I have read a lot of reviews on here about this album that say things like "This is not Coheed", or "I wish I had the old Coheed back". To those people, I would say that this is a band who is maturing and evolving. The only thing constant is change. With that being said, what hasn't changed is the band's ability to produce amazing music and art. Just because it might not sound like Second Stage doesn't mean it's not Coheed. It just means we have a band that has evolved and continues to evolve into who they are today. I'm excited about what's to come. As for my own feelings on the album, I think it's GOOD. Do I think they are capable of something better or more epic? Sure, but it's still a great album, and to those who dismiss it: I think it's worth a re-listen or two to have the visceral sound of this album sink in. It took longer than usual for this album to connect with me, but once it did, I really do like it.
