It's hard to believe that Dolly released only two holiday albums during her long career. I was hoping that while she was with Sugar Hill records that she would finally release a proper Bluegrass holiday album but that never came to fruition. Her first full holiday album containing the classic "Hard Candy Christmas" was with Kenny Rogers during her RCA tenure, the second was with Sony. The former lp steered more toward original songs, the latter more traditional. Still, a lot of both secular and non-secular carols await the Dolly treatment. In the meantime this song is certainly worthy to be part of Dolly's canon.

When I first heard just the opening of this song, I was taken back to my childhood when all Christmas music, for me, was associated with Dolly Parton. This song is Classic Dolly at her best! The voice, the lyrics, the melody, the message, is why Dolly Parton has been around for 50 years.....and counting!
