    The second reviewer doesn't have his facts quite right. "The Missing Linc" was Volume II of the three "Distinguished Colleagues" albums, and it's included here. The other albums had different names. Volume I is extremely rare on LP. This is how Sheffield described this collection: "The recordings, which raised the audiophile recording industry to high profile status, are presented in this 2-CD set, containing the three Lincoln Mayorga and Distinguished Colleagues albums from 1968, 1972, and 1973."

    This was not a single LP... it is 3 LPs that were done on Scheffield Labs Direct-to-Disc recordings back in '74, '75 and '76 if I am not mistaken. In this re-release it comes in a two CD set from the label. These, as was mentioned, were cutting edge recordings. Once the players start a song they don't stop and it is cut directly to the master disc. Having JBL studio monitors back in those days I could hear every single sound on those LPs... it was fantastic. No overdubbing, no electronic silly stuff and no sampling... just straight music played the way it would be played live in a concert. And, if I remember Scheffield used virgin vinyl for the LP's... I do know they were a couple of dollars more then the average LP at the time and they were absolutely clean... not pops or hiss. The bottom line is that this is as pure as it gets and Lincoln Mayorga delivered to the hilt. I wish iTunes could get their hands on his "Missing Link" and "Missing LInk II" LP's. Those are truly lost gems that need to be re-issued by Scheffield. I am sure they have the master discs in the vault.

    Heard this albun in 1975 on a Carver Preamp and Amp. This was a Direct to Disk album recorded in Santa Barbara California. Once the first note was hit the group played all of these pieces for this album notstop due to being piped in to a Scully Lathe which was cutting the master/mother disk as they played. I believe there is a drum hit at the end of one song and you might hear a motorcycle starting off outside of the recording studio between two songs. This was leading edge technology and accomplished by a dedicated group and leader. Wonderful, clear music without any compression. I owned this album and loved it for years. Enjoy.
