We wait and wait for new records from Elysian Fields, like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. "Unwrapping" The Afterlife is the perfect present, and the listener is endlessly rewarded. I think this could be a near perfect album, and is probably my favorite. The moods are lush and dreamy, and sometimes a bit trippy and way deep. The lyrics are like poetry, and many of the songs are so moving. This is a very romantic album as well! My favorite songs are Climbing My Dark Hair (like a sad fairy tale), How We Die (life affirming and beautiful), Where Can We Go But Nowhere (soaring romanticism), Night Melody of the Pull (longing, filled with desire and ache), Ashes in Winter Light (duet reflecting back on a relationship. you will cry). But actually, I love all the songs. Listening puts me in another world, a world I don't want to have to ever wake up from. They make amazing music! Get this for everyone on your itunes Christmas list! They'll thank you forever.
