...teachers and critics all dance the poot. Saw devo touring in support of this LP when I was in high school. Changed me for the better. The Brian Eno, Bowie, Conny Plank production & engineering on here is sublime. Listen to Mongoloid, Come Back Jonee, Gut Feeling, & Satisfaction through some big Klipsch speakers and a big McIntosh amp cranked up. That's pure apex predator real punk rock cut with golden age Eno sonic weirdness. To think Devo fought with these guys for creative control to the point of tossing out a lot of Eno's synth work is bewildering. Devo's refusing to push their sonic envelope and themselves speaks volumes to how their redneck Akron roots held them back from being sonic innovators they should have been and made every record they did after this one sound brittle and inorganic. Don't get me wrong, the next few LP's they did after this are fine but they devolved into a niche, wacky, robotic new wave act after this. They kept and improved on their excellent, angry scathing social commentary lyrics but after this LP it was social satire with robo-beats a frat boy could dance to instead of this unruly punk rock mutant basket case baby. If you're looking for an album that condones superior degeneracy and will tell you you are better than everyone else. If you see the universe as one sick dark joke. If you can help Devo with a donation of one dollar. If you'll pay to know what you think then this LP is for you. Buy or die pinks.

If you don't really like this album that is totally ok. It is kinda random and nonsensical. Just because this album may not be your cup of tea check out some other albums from devo. Start with OH NO!, new traditionalists, freedom of choice then something for everybody. Then comeback to this album. The thing you have to understand about this album is that it is not supposed to sound good. It is supposed to be weird, bizarre, and kinda funny. Even though this might not be the best album LISTEN TO MONGOLOID, IT IS BY FARRR THE BEST SONG ON THIS ALBUM.

Uncontrollable Urge is honestly the worst song I have ever heard in my life. It repeats the same TAXING PHRASE OVER AND OVER and really makes you want to hang yourself. I will never listen to this song willingly again and if I ever find it on the radio or any other form of broadcast media, I will blow my brains out.

A great album that's withstood the trials of time.

To put this album in context, go listen to the top 100 songs of 1978 (hint - Andy Gibb, the Bee Gees and Debby Boone dominated) and then maybe you'll be ready for THIS cathartic brain-cleanser of an album.

It's hard to explain how radical and offensive this LP was at the time—especially the now-classic, demented Stones cover. Not a bad song in the bunch, but "Mongoloid" may be the best.
