When I was a kid and singing madrigals, the first book we used was "The A Capella Singer," published by G. Schirmer. It was a great collection of popular madrigals in a variety of styles and languages and we sang just about every tune in the book. I'm sure most beginning madrigalistas did the same. So here is this album, with the same title and containing exactly the same songs in the same order (if I remember correctly) as the book. What great memories it brings back! I'm sure every old madrigal singer will love it. The performances are very nice but a little bland. These pieces are meant to be sung one to a part rather than by a chorus.

"This album is a collection of some of the best music available from the Renaissance period, almost a greatest hits album, if you will. Great dynamics, diction, style and musical passion." -Jonathan Sears, RARB "The ensemble singing is excellent...probably the best collection of madrigals to be found anywhere." -Ward Swingle, The Swingle Singers
