Sigvart plays these old standard hymns and puts a breath of freshness on them with a twist. He has a clear vibrant voice, which reminds me at times of Cliff Richard, combined with welcomed interjections of electric guitar riffs reminiscent of Mark Knopfler's classic "Brothers In Arms" blended with upbeat trumpet and tasteful jazz piano throughout will make what is old new again without any pretense or sense of irreverence. (I'm guessing his wife, Karoline Kruger is playing piano on this CD as it's exceptional.)
This isn't what you would expect from the simplistic "Hymns" title. Sigvart Dagsland delivers something very special here well worth listening to especially if enjoy something new and love the solid message contained in these old hymns. This is a wonderful little gem from Norway which takes Traditional Worship Hymns and bridges the chasm between Contemporary and Traditional Worship.
