I think with a piece of music like this it's important to not judge it on the sample alone. Yes it's going to sound repetitive in the 1:30 snippet, that's how Terry Riley's music is. It isn't, however, tedious at all when taken in as a whole. One section melts in to another and the whole experience is rather hypnotizing. Seriously, yea it's 40 minutes, but who doesn't have a free hour once in a while? Personally I grabbed it from my local library and took a drive down the coast with it playing in the car. Definitely a drive I won't soon forget. What's the fun in listening to music if we don't push our boundaries once in a while?
  • An Iconic Piece

For those without any musical history, this piece may seem strange and repetitive. You need to listen to it in the context it was written. This piece was a corner stone for the soon to emerge electronic pieces and eventually techno, etc. This style had never been done before. That includes Philip Glass. That why this piece is so important to classical music and eventually the rave stuff too. Before In C, nothing like this existed.
  • The Most Dreadful Peice You Will Hear

Ok. For school, our hippy teacher wanted us to play it for a concert. I gave myself a headache at our own performance, and I hated every single moment that I heard it. It is these types of peices that make me hate 20th century music. If you want to save your ears, don't buy it.

I just heard the excerpts. It makes the repititious writing of Philip Glass seem like like Brahms. Why would anyone think this music is important?

This year is the 45th Anniversary of the recording. It is the must have album of New Music, but you don't need to be a new music fan to like it.

Sorry, but I'd rather chew on aluminum foil.

Classic recording not to be missed. Tune in, sit down, and let the ears wonder.
