  • An Intriguing Instrument...

...but a mixed program. The story of putting a conventional pipe organ in a stadium-sized conference center in 2006 is interesting, and Schoenstein have built a fine instrument in the manner of the great Aeolian-Skinner organ in the nearby Tabernacle. But I'd prefer to hear more of the great art repertoire on this instrument and less of what might be played in an actual church service. The instrument's colors and range are ably demonstrated, but there's not much to engage one's higher brain, not much to make me return and listen again. The sound is fine, though the room is an anomaly and not much of a player on this disc.
