  • Skrape Up the Dose with Their 2nd Effort

Skrape's sophomore effort "Up the Dose" definitely boosts things up a notch, and therefore, I give this album 3.5 stars out of 5. On this album, the members of Skrape (new replacement members on board) really step up to the plate. Each individual tries new things musically, and it really shows through. The guitar solos are sweeter, the vocals are much more dramatic and melodic, and the rhythm section is much more bassy and groovy. Highlights include: "Bleach", "Up the Dose" and the "hold your breath" track "I Can't Breathe". The Skrape signature sound starts to come to fruition here, the songs are much more focused, balanced, and there's even new directions taken. Songs like "Stand Up (Summer Song" and "Searching for Home" incorporate a more straight-ahead rock sound. With "Up the Dose" it's apparent that Skrape wanted to move away a bit from the "chug chug" motif and begin experimenting. Thus, I give them kudos! If you enjoyed "New Killer America", this is the next step!

I am a fan of Skrape's 1st album "New Killer America" but I can honestly say I really enjoy this record from start - finish and never get sick of it. They really honed their sound on this one and made a sick album.
