This album is very interesting...I am not very familiar with MadLib, however, there is no disputing the artistic value of this production. The term Original is fitting, and even if the beats lose their "luster" at times, they are still creative. I have to admit that I am used to more "hard-hitting" DJ's, but this collection does manage to keep the head rockin' despite it's overall laid back style. A good, slow smoked, instrumental adventure.

this is a good one and way better priced than the discs alone. to the guy who made the mistake of waiting- don't tarnish this ablum by saying its not good because YOU made the mistake of not waiting till the duo set came out. anyways classic mad, you can love for sure. some of the songs are way too short- J's Day Theme to name one, and others are a bit too long. This cd is a fine tribute to jay dee, laden with samples of his music Its a must have and if you like madlib, j-dilla or both (like everyone does).

Dilla, Madlib, the whole Stones Throw collective, this is what real hip-hop is about. Grimey SP-1200 beats, dirty vinyl samples chopped to oblivian, that's how I like my hip-hop. This is one genius paying tribute to another... it just doesn't get any better than that.
  • madlib a genius again

Only Madlib and J-Rocc could come up with one of the best tribute Dilla album and they had to make it into two seperate ones to start. I've had the Vol. 5 since it dropped last year and this is just the icing on the cake for one of the best producers working today. Intertwined with Dilla and Madlib beats it only makes me sad at the loss of the genius of Jay Dee but optomistic on how his legend will grow and flourish through those he touched. A must buy for any hip hop head.

This is a collection of fantastic beats that occasionally lulls. However, you can tell that Madlib's heart and soul is in this album through and through, mainly from all the references to his dear friend J. Dilla. Lots of really phat beats....I would recommend "The Mystery (Dilla's Still Here)" and "The Electric Zone (Plugged In)" for starters. Good stuff, give it a listen!!!
