Barry Manilow has the voice of an angel. This album shows his true voice with songs like "Open Arms" and "Time After Time". But yet the selection of songs also shows Barry Manilow's moderate voice and articulation to his words for fast tempo songs including "Never Gonna Give You Up". This is just my opinion and I'm not disagreeing with anybody. I'm just stated that Barry Manilow changed the ruthenium and tempo of each song to sound unique to his tone of voice. I loved that Mr. Manilow took us back to the classic songs of each decade that bring us memories of good times. So I am just gonna say that I love what Mr. Manilow has done with these songs and I hoe continues to do it. Barry Manilow is my all time favorite singer and I hope someday I could meet him. __-------Jeff Bautch

To Mr. Manilow he has been around for years and I believe he tries the best for his fans but the version of "Careless Whisper" here is vanilla and just lacks soul. Try Seether's cover of the song it rocks.

My BF SGOAT1 gave this CD to me since we have a Barry connection. I must say I think he was going for a comedy album with this. "Never Gonna Give You Up" had and quite honestly still does have me laughing uncontrollably. Come on Barry were you that hard up for cash? Classic Sappy Over the Top Manilow is what he should stick to.

"The Greatest Songs and of the Eighties" is the best of the decades series. I'd even go as far as to say that it's Barry's best cover album. Highlights are. . . practically every track! My personal favorites are "Islands In The Stream," "Never Gonna Give You Up," "Right Here Waiting," "Hard To Say I'm Sorry," and "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." Nonetheless, "I Just Called to Say I Love You" doesn't work for me. Otherwise, PERFECT.

Barry was really keeping busy the last few years, he released two songbooks in 2006, another songbook, and a Christmas album recorded for Hallmark cards in 2007, and this cd released in 2008, the "Greatest Songs Of The Eighties." The Christmas album is slated for commercial release this year. On this album I have to question some of the choices for he picks songs closely associated with the original artists and the originals are considered definitive. "Never Gonna Give You Up" was a smash for Rick Astley and Barry's cover is a novelty, his timing is close to the original and he sounds like he had a bit of a hard time singing on tempo. "Islands In The Stream" is so closely associated with Dolly and Kenny that it should be "hands off," the Bee-Gees covered the song for inclusion on their "Greatest Hits" for cohesive sake, it was so carefully recorded it sounds like the original demo. However for this version the choice of Reba McEntire as a partner re-invents the song, but this and all other versions will be forever eclipsed by the magical pairing of Kenny and Dolly. He steers clear of rock, even though he covered Journey with the pop ballad "Open Arms" he didn't attempt Foreigner's "Waiting For A Girl Like You" or "I Don't Want To Live Without You." One song, a cover of Paul Young's cover of Hall & Oates "Every Time You Go Away" was recorded during these sessions and was released overseas as a single and was included in an updated collection of his hits.

Man everyone with a sense of humor and appreciation for what's truly great in the world can dig some old school Barry Manilow. It's all good with the 70's stuff. This sounds like someone took terrible elevator music versions of these songs and had him song over them. It's just embarrassing. It's really beyond bad. It actually made me feel nauseous.

This is by far the worst and funniest album I have ever encountered. Please Barry, please...don't do it again! Just stop Barry...you are just embarassing yourself.
