I've had this album on repeat since the day I bought it. It's the most refreshing album I've purchased this year. Do yourself a favor and buy it.. you'll be glad you did.

What I love most about this band is the clarity of the music. For me the brilliance I am hearing on the record is attributed to the musicians AND the mixing/engineers Craig Schumacher Mixed, Engineers Chris Schultz, Nick Luca and John Svek Mastered by JJ Golden - great job!

This is one of, if not the, best Calexico album to date. From Victor Jara's Hands to Inspiracion to The News About William to Houe of Valparaiso...there is not a bad song on this album. I too was a little disappointed by Garden Ruin, but this album alone makes up for it. I just can't say enough about it.

these guys havent put a foot wrong yet..testament to their talent and goal in music. Its amazin gtheyre not more popular in mainstream, this album is again very commercial while retaineing that folk/indy feel.

I wouldn't go as far as to say Calexico is the best band in the U.S., as some other reviewers have, because I think there are a lot of great bands in the U.S. right now in the indie rock genre; especially Wilco, Spoon, Battles (I think Battles are U.S. correct me if wrong) but I will say this: Carried to Dust is a pleasant, joyful gem of an album, and if you appreciate musicianship, this album could be a nice addition to your music collection. Personal fav's for me are 'Two Silver Trees' and 'El Gatillo.' I wonder if they're any good live...
  • Best Band in America

Calexico is without a doubt the best band in America. Each song paints a picture for the listener stocked with melodic imagery that is crafted by some of the top musicians around. Burns and Convertino are at the top of their game with this batch of songs. They are the text book definition of the word eclectic. Seeing them live is also a one of a kind musical experience-if your head is not tacked down well to your neck it just may pop off. Undoubtedly in the top 10 of '08

This album is incredible... I think Calexico have made their masterpiece. I got annoyed with Garden Ruin because it felt like they were trying to be too "indie", and so much of that stuff sounds the same anymore. Sorry. (there were some really great songs on that album though, but not enough,) The drums on that album especially annoyed me because they were so far down in the mix, and so maybe I have a problem with that, I like the way their drums sound so they shouldn't hide it. But this is all the best parts of all the early albums all rolled into one great desert biscuit. Very low key and sweeet. Listen to the outro of Man Made Lake, Bend To The Road... just listen to it all... it is a great ride. ok. Check out Pinetop Seven too...

Once again, Calexico leaves me speechless. Something about the intro to Two Silver Trees on the Calexico website told me that this might be my favorite album since All My Sure Things...

Another excellent CD. No stand out song, but as a CD can't be beat. This band can't be ignored anymore.
