    On the one hand, it’s very moving to hear Aretha sing so purely in church. Her wonderful voice and expressiveness can nearly make you weep. On the other hand, she sings with a choir and the choir gets lots of airtime. The choir is good, but it is not Aretha. Also, the audio mix often foregrounds the choir when what you want to hear is her. So if you want a unique expression of a time and place and Aretha at her prime, with everything that comes with it that is not Aretha, this a good record for you. If you want undiluted Aretha, a different album would be better.
