I can't imagine Christmas without this absolutely beautiful CD. It is the perfect backdrop for a holiday party, a family Christmas or an intimate holiday evening. The first half of the CD is mostly traditional in sound, but then the choral arrangements come in and the combination of these two musical sounds is just so beautiful. I put a fire in the fireplace, pour a glass of wine and relax to this CD at the holidays and I have used it during many holiday parties. Ronstadt was the first to interpret Joni Mitchell's River as a Christmas song, and it remains the best holiday version of the song. Linda's duet on White Christmas with Rosemary Clooney is a fitting tribute to Clooney's career. A stunning, beautiful CD. Turn down the house lights, light up the Christmas tree and enjoy.

It's Linda Ronstadt! How can you go wrong with a voice like that for the Christmas season?

The "A side" (songs 1-5) will be most familiar to people, being old standards and a nice version of Joni Mitchell's "River" ... but the "B side" (songs 6-14) is my favorite. Ronstadt sings in a choral setting here, often blending in instead of taking solo. Especially beautiful is "Away In a Manger" with a new minor-key melody.
