Listen people this review is long overdue. If you want some mellow atmospheric drum and bass go check out the Hospital label. This aint no jazzy chillout Roni Size music this is for the hardcore massive. This is the heaviest mix the DSL has put out since the 6th session and make no mistake he truly represents on this one. The mix is nasty as always and the Human Imprint tracks do not disappoint. From Demo's O.D. to Gridlok's Load Rocket the whole CD is filled with dancefloor killers! If you like Drum and Bass and want to hear a sample of the future sound of heavy dancefloor techstep check this out. The DSL rarely disappoints.

after all the hype i got from the reviews of this cd, i went out and bought a hard copy. BIG MISTAKE. All of the samples given by itunes were of melodic, interesting parts of every song. Sadly after i excidedly put this cd into my friend's car cd player, the only part of the cd we enjoyed was the warning label. I was embarassed to have even bought this cd, and both my friend and i were dnb fans. i almost never give harsh reviews but lately, dnb has been such a letdown. This is not a quality dnb production. it is talentless noise. In a nutshell, this album sounds like a monkey tried to use fruitlyloops by dropping bricks on the keyboard in the production studio.
  • Dull and Repetitive- lacks "oomph"

Almost every song is the same as the others. The drum beats are flat and papery; they seem to follow the paradigm of "the more the better," but this just makes the tracks noisy without any emotional energy. Top these weak beats off with an overly-distorted bass lines and finish the whole thing with a lack of structure and you got a good idea of the whole album. Buy "Project Human" or "The Dungeonmaster's Guide," instead. If you do get "Substance D," get it for free or from a cheap Russian site; it is not worth 16 bucks.
  • DSL at his best

I've patiently awaited another Dieselboy mix since the 6ixth Session that was as bumping as this. Though Project Human and Dungeonmaster's Guide had their moments, this is the exact type of mix from him that qualifies as his signature sound. It's extremely forward-looking and there isn't a single cheesy moment to be found...just maximum strength drum and bass. The whole thing is sick and certifiably insane. DH showcases the absolute cutting-edge of drum and bass technology on Substance D and makes me realize that if you sleep on this genre for 2 seconds you've missed something incredible. Wake up b1tch3z!
  • Best Dieselboy

This is Dieselboy's best since The Dungeonmaster's Guide. More rolling beats and tracks with good hooks than The Human Resource, which makes it fun to share with friends in the car or on their stereo to test their bass. Worth the 15$ for the whole album.

At the time of writing this review, Midnight Express was their number one download. The clip sounded cool, but the whole song is hardly listenable. Sorry guys.
  • Good album BUT...

Hate to deter iTunes, but Dieselboy CDs are meant to be bought... The packaging is superb, the artwork, printing and design is top-quality. You basicly save nothing buying it here (bought it at my local shop for 19.99, ok you save a penny and tax buying here) and I am sure it is readily available. Great stuff here though, the remix of Helter Skelter by MBM stands out. A little rough in the beginning, but it smoothes out nicely after the 3rd track...

Incredible DnB, putting together some of the most progressive sounds. From start to finish I was blown away. The influence of Demo, Ewun, and Evol Intent are felt throughout the album. A must own at any price, in my opinon.

I love dieselboy my fav dnb artist for sure, however i dont think this is his strongest work, I prefer all of his other albums to this one. Gridloks "break the system" is a better purchase.
