I really think this is a great album. You can hear the work and passion the guys put into it. I didn't like it much at first, but after a couple listens it struck me. I recommend you at least give it a try.

this just a great album and everyone who is calling them sellouts should just listen to the whole album
  • Technically Their Best Album Yet

While some have expressed dissatisfaction with this album being not "as punk" as prior albums I would respectfully disagree, and I would take it even one step further to say that this is their strongest work yet in my opinion. The technical aspects of this album leave all other AF albums in the dust. This album brings a sense of maturity to their sound, meaning that the guys are fine-tuning and honing in on what they do best while remaining to push the envelope and explore new creative angles. Their messages are still bold and in-your-face while they are orchestrated to appeal to the keenest of listeners. Being more creative and talented is not connotative of being "less punk".

I happen to be a HUGE Anti-Flag fan. I even liked For Blood and Empire, but this is just a weak record. The songs that are good are most definitely not what I was looking for, and the others I just can't seem to figure out. The strong emotion anti-Flag usually brings to the table is somehow lacking. The most glaring thing I noticed is that it seems like this album could be a half-hour record, not a drawn out 53 minute one. There are times where I really get into a song, and then they kill it with repitition. One aspect of the album that is hit or miss from song to song is the over-production. Some songs just need to be left raw and abused, not perfect. Best songs are probably Good and Ready, Bright Lights, If You Wanna Steal (it took some listens for me to get to that point), and Spit in the Face. Tar and Sagebrush as well as Go West are actually pretty damn good once you get out of the mindset of what they should be. Mediocre album, good effort

So, let me start off by saying that there will be people who will not like this album. However, these will most likely be the same people who didn't like For Blood and Empire. That being said, I love this album. It still has that same Anti-Flag sound, it still has the anger, it still has the message. This album also shows how Anti-Flag has grown as a band and in their song writing capabilities. It has alot of depth and musical layering that is not present in most punk albums. This would be attributed to the use of a variety of insturments such as chello, brass, piano, harmonica, even a childrens chior and an orchestra. The bottom line is, that this is a great album. It's got the anger, it's got the passion, it's got the message, and it is going to be running through my i-pod for a long time to come. 1) Good And Ready- 9/ 10 2) The Bright Lights Of America- 9/ 10 3) Vices- 8/10 4) The Modern Rome Burning- 9/ 10 5) If You Wanna Steal- 7/ 10 6) No Warning- 7/ 10 7) Spit In The Face- 9/ 10 8) We Are The Lost- 7/ 10 9) Go West- 9/ 10 10) Smartest Bomb- 9/ 10 11) Shadow Of The Dead- 8/ 10 12) The Ink And The Quill- 9/ 10 13) Tar And Sagebrush- 8/ 10

I havnt had a chance to listen through the entire things many times, and Ive only had the cd for 2 days so I cant really take in the music as much as I used to but here it goes. The cd isnt that bad. I mean it has the Anti-Flag sound, it has the anti-flag content and some of the songs are really catchy and I bet they will grow on me soon. I hate when people knock bands because they change their sound just a little bit. I mean, I know Anti Flag has changed a bit since the days of A New Kind of Army and even The Terror State but it hasnt changed as much as like Green Day did when they put out American Idiot...Now that was a dissapointment. But hey, if you are looking for a decent album with some catchy songs pick this up and if you are a die hard Anti-Flag fan get do it as well.

It's not a bad cd, but it seems like as they come out with more and more music they tend to become less of the punk sound i loved in cd's like a new kind of army and die for the government. There wasn't much on the cd that stuck out much to me. If you have some extra cash its worth the money but it's not a must have.
