AnnaSophia Robb Does It Again!

"Sleepwalking" is perhaps one of the most provocative films I have ever seen. It does something I have yet to see in a movie: It keeps you thinking, keeps you wondering, makes you care, and it makes you use your brain to desipher the hidden meanings in many of the scenes. (For example: Tara smoking by the pool. She does it because she's secretly been watching her mother, and like any child, is swayed by her influence. When you see the boys in the hot tub looking at her through the water, you see that their faces are blurry. This is how Tara feels about her life: Her vision of the world is distorted and mute, and she feels like she's constantly underwater, hidden away and alone.)
The best portrayed characters are probably Tara (AnnaSophia Robb) and Joleen (Cherlize Theron). To me, James, (Nick Stahl) and Randall (Woody Harrelson) are a bit over-dramatic and unrealistic. Mr. Reedy, (Dennis Hopper) Joleen and James' father, is in-between. I beleive his character would be better had they drug out the events between him beating Tara and James killing Mr. Reedy, making him seem like a kind figure before realizing what he did to his children, then turing on Tara.
Over all, I think AnnaSophia did the best out of everyone, and this is another film of hers that is like "Bridge to Terabithia": you feel sympathetic towards her character, you want to know more about her, and you have a sweet, warm feeling in your heart that mixes with an ache when the credits roll, something that brings out the writer in me; (and many others) the desire to continue Tara Reedy's story.
4.5 stars for Sleepwalking!
