As a big classic rock fan I have to admit Live Doors shows have never been an easy listen for me. When Jim Morrison was in his "happy place" the band often sounded like they were struggling really hard to keep up with him. I suppose the bands unpredictability night to night is what draws some fans to them, but I really think their live performances suffered because of it. This Pittsburgh show is a great classic rock band firing on all cylinders. Jim is in control, a bit subdued even..........highly recommended.

I AM 34 YEARS OLD, I'VE BEEN A DOORS FAN FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS NOW...WHAT CAN I SAY...WOW. WHAT A GREAT BAND. I COLLECT STUFF ON THEM NOW, HAVE MOST OF THEIR ALBUMS..I HAVE READ 4 BOOKS ON THEM NOW...I CAN'T GET ENOUGH. MAKES ME WISH I WERE ALIVE DURING THAT TIME. THEY ARE, TO ME, THE BEST BAND EVER. I AM ABSOLUTELY FASCINATED BY THEM. THIS ALBUM IS GREAT. THE ONLY LIVE ALBUM I HAVE IS LIVE IN BOSTON, APRIL 1970...IT IS ALSO GREAT. BUT SO IS THIS....IF YOU ARE A DOORS FAN, THIS IS FOR YOU.

I recommend this album as a must have for Doors fans. Compared to their originally released live album, "Absolutely Live" is ranks almost as good. For me, I do not rank it quite as high as that album as it seemed Morrison's voice sounded a little flat compared to the "Absolutely Live" album. I am guessing that perhaps he may have already started his downward physically/emotionally considering this show was performed a year before his death. But hey, it's the Doors and this was still a solid performance. I am just glad to be getting my hands on some new Doors stuff considering Morrison has long since left this existence. I give it five stars.

I was born 13 years after this show took place but it just seems so vivid. Euphoric feeling when they go from one song to the next, no break in between. My only live album I have heard from The Doors so if you want to pick one I'm no help... but this is definately worth it.

Not only is this concert a great piece of history, but the music itself and the quality of the recording are great also.

Great to hear a good version of this concert after years of listening to my cheap cassette tape that I recorded. Audible crowd comments throughout the concert and the inclusion of announcements at the end of the concert makes for an authentic feel. As usual, Manzarek’s keyboards and Kreiger’s guitar riffs were creative and outstanding. Morrison’s vocals, though inconsistent, retained their melodies and at times were as strong as ever. Morrison's creativity was apparent throughout the show by use of improvised lyrics. Near the end of the concert, Morrison humorously referenced authority figures (Tonite You’re In For A Special Treat) in an attempt to goad the audience to rush the stage --- which they did during the final song, Light My Fire. Five to One, Roadhouse Blues, When the Music’s Over and Light My Fire were the highlights of the concert, whether of not you appreciate the extensive improvised sound effects and lyrics on When The Music’s Over. Years later it occurred to me that Morrison’s improvised line (repeated three times) in When The Music’s Over --- “Something Wrong, Something Not Quite Right” was prophetic in that 100 miles northwest of Pittsburgh --- at the same time the concert was happening (the evening of May 2, 1970) --- the Kent State University ROTC building was burned to the ground. This prompted the governor of Ohio to immediately call in the Ohio National Guard to campus, which in turn led to the deaths of four anti-war protesters on Monday, May 4, 1970. We had an auto accident on I-70 at high speed on our way to this concert. A bent rim on our ' 66 Corvair was not going to stop the four of us from hobbling along at 40 mph to complete the trip to Pittsburgh to see The Doors !!

I got this album originally because I live in Pittsburgh and it was nice to have, but once I listened to it I fell in love with it. It shows a little Blusier side of the doors that is great to see. I love Roadhouse Blues, great CD!

WOW ~ finally, after 8 long years of promises Bright Midnight finally releases the entire Pittsburgh show... and it's well worth the wait. Turn down the lights, light some incense and listen to this concert all the way thru: in one sitting. You will truely feel transported to that Spring night in the Steel City. Hearing "Universal Mind" & "Someday Soon" at this show is a nice change of pace from the now common Aquarius & Seattle versions of these two rarities. Also, the 22+ minute version of "WTMO" blew my mind.
