duh, the review of this album is way off! certainly this style of singing has gone out of fashion...but that doesn't take anything away from enjoying these songs. any active listener with some basic knowledge of what makes a record work can spot the obvious great moments on this album. and "you and me" is certainly one of them...perhaps one of melissa's greatest recordings. it's a big song perfectly suited for her pop-chantuse-meets-broadway-baby delivery. even frank sinatra was enamored with this performance and secured the rights to the song until he could put his own stamp on it later that year (a powerful record in its own right - check it out on his "Trilogy" cd). "if this is love" and "without you" are also near perfect recordings by melissa, as any fan of female vocalists can hear right off the bat. but perhaps the greatest joy on this album is the afterthought "happier than i've ever been" positioned at the end of the album. when that soaring last chorus combines with the superb string arrangement, its delicious - slick, 80s pop at its best. the album never found an audience, but it definately deserves some respect. kudos to itunes for making this available!
