  • Great performances

Szell conducts beautifully. More nuanced, I think, than the Bernstein collection. Magnificent performances of the works of the man I believe was, if not the greatest composer who ever lived, certainly the most under-rated. Schumann belongs with Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, and Bach in the pantheon of composition. This recording demonstrates why. These symphonies are an essential part of any classical music collection and these performances are the finest available, in my less-than-humble opinion.
