Show cases the Chicago Symphony well, not enough of Yo-Yo Ma or of a specifically familiar sound but not a tremendous departure either. Good listening on a rainy day with a nice cup of tea and a good book.

If you are looking for classical music or pop related music, you should stop looking at this page right now. This is NOT a folk/world/pop album made for an easier listening (and i'm not saying these albums are not good) but an invitation to explore world music -from the silk road route- in it's real form. It's a fantastic alternative to more familiar, mainstream western music, and a way to understand a bit more the form and culture of different mindframes. Most of the tracks in the album are really good, but my favourites are these: Arabian waltz (this is such a cool dancing track!!!) Ambush from ten sides (cause it has a really good classical mood... and the combination of pipa sheng, guitar and cello is so innovative and great) the silent city, (it transmits immediattely the sensation of hugeness and loneliness of something so big as a city... this track i'ts TRULY unique) And finally, galloping horses. the pipa sounds so good and the last surprise of the track is FU***NG cool!!!! This album is something special... P.s.- I invite you to hear the podcasts about this album. It will help you to understand a bit more the creation and inspiration behind these pieces. These podcasts are a must have also... Sugoi!!! :D

I really liked this album, Its relaxing and really gets the imagination pumping. I really wish it wasn't live though, I love sleeping to this kind of music and the applause at the end of every song are somewhat an rude awakening. Other than that very nice album.

This album is simply incredible. I could not stay in my seat or hold in my emotions as i listened to the absolutely genius Ambush from Ten Sides and Vocussion. Two incredible songs to cap off another extraordinary album. The return of Night at the Caravanesrai is welcome as well =) If you remotely enjoy world/classical music, this album is a must buy

Not bad, but not great. I would say average +. We expected much more from this. It is enjoyable, but it came no where close to the expectations that we had based on the Yo-Yo Ma that we have in our collection. Yo-Yo Ma is one of our 5 year old's favorite artists. He did not enjoy this as much as the other works that he listens to continuously.
  • Great Experiment

I have always wanted to hear the results of the Silk Road Project, and this is absolutely fantastic! It would have been great if the album included a digital cover with explanations on the music, unless there is one and I didn't see it. Please get it for us to learn more about each piece! Thanks.

How do you really rate classical music. The Chicago Symphony is one of the greatest around and with Yo-yo Ma playing with them, how can they go wrong. This is not your parents' classical. Worth a listen even if you've not been a fan before.
