I recall being touched when I first viewed the film for which this music was composed. Hearing the main theme on my NPR station (KUNR) tonight before purchasing the album on iTunes reminded me how much Ms. Portman's artistry and musical competence touches the heart and, more importantly, the soul. I always love what Rachel Portman comes up with, but what I especially about this score..is that it definitely falls under the "Americana" category which is so great to hear from her! :)
  • One of my favorites from Portman!

If you like the lush strings and piano, this is the score for you. I would also recommend "The Door in the Floor" by Marcelo Zarvos or anything from Josh Kramer (one of my new favorites)

Listening always brings a sense of joy and bittersweet saddness. A generous and life affirming soundtrack.

The "Main Titles" track on this CD is amazing. The simple yet elegant sound of the lone piano stirs memories of the my childhood in one of the most beautiful states our country has to offer. Take a look at the ads, "Pure Michigan" will entice you to come on u.p.

I have been in love with Ms Portman's work for years now. My favorite composer had been Maurice Jarre. Sadly he passed this March. I feel Rachel Portman will carry the banner for me in his absence. Her music reminds me of his work so much its uncanny. That being said this body of work is one of her best if not the very best. I just feel this incredible pleasure when viewing this film with her music. Can you hear Dr Zhivago?

When this movie first began, I knew I had to have the soundtrack. The ebb and flow of the music is so peaceful--stunning!!

I have waited for a long time for more of Rachel Portman's music to be released, especially the music from Cider House Rules... Fantastic soundtrack, from what was a fantastic movie.
