One of Aretha’s Underrated Masterpieces

Aretha's stint was Arista spotty, successful in renewing her commercial appeal, but, lean in its artistic achievements especially in comparison to the stellar early Atlantic Recordings and even the beauty of her voice during the Columbia years. But beginning with “In the Morning”, this is hands down my favorite Aretha Arista album.
Clouded by the show biz coupling of Aretha with Lauryn Hill which is all well and good. But I arrogantly state that the true Aretha fan finds grace in the last 6 songs ending with the brilliant self-penned “The Woman”, that’s Aretha, that’s the woman who makes me cry, testify and stand in amazement.
Diana is The Diva/The Queen of Motown
Whitney was The Voice
Barbara is the Queen of Adult Contemporary
And
Aretha is The Queen of Soul
THERE’S many thrones with Dazzling Queens on each throne.
Mariah may get there, Madonna is an also-ran lacking depth
Rihanna has charts that are as forgettable as she is

This entire album is AMAZING! It’s filled with real heart and emotion. Aretha pulls on your heart strings, and as a woman, you connect with her here. Every song is awesome, it’s my go-to. LOVE IT! Thank you, Aretha, for your gift of music. Rest in peace, Queen of Soul. We love you!

Deliciously Aged Wine

I must've have placed this CD a thousand times or more. I was simply amazed and astonished at the brilliance of her tone: by now it was like sipping a deliciously, aged red wine. Here was Aretha Franklin in her 60's at the time of this recording; and she was completely and effortlessly shifting with the times: something that she'd always done gracefully and successfully. She showcases on this CD that she knows how to remain contemporary, in the moment and relevant. My favorite tunes on here are "Never Leave You Again", "The Woman" and the gut wrenching "Love Pang." The title tune, "A Rose Is Still A Rose" shows that Aretha is more than just some talented vocalist, but that she is a legend to be reckoned with, admired and esteemed: she's an international treasure.
FYI (A tip for buyers)

This is not a review of the album proper, I just wanted to let people know that the version of "A Rose Is Still a Rose" that appears in this album begins with a 30 second intro that may become obnoxious after repeated listening or when you play the song in a larger playlist.
You can of course go into "info" and have the track start further into the song, but if you're just here to buy that one song, then you might want to go with the Radio Edit version instead.

The queen of Soul still reigns supreme, even today, styling at the Presidential Inaguration with that Fly Hat, which has become historical memoribilla, you KNOW from this song, how she teaches women, to be a Lady in the Street, yet, sexy and sweet between the sheets!
