Tori puts out another concept album. This album's concept is special for two reasons. 1. She's done it before. 2. The concept on it's own is very dumb. Having said that the album is pretty solid. Some songs are dumb but the first 7 tracks are solid and pretty good songs.
Incredibly Original

American Doll Posse, Tori's 9th album, is a strong effort that erases the disaster left behind from 2005's The Beekeeper. It becomes apparent from the start that this is going to be unlike any of her previous releases. From the perspective of 5 different women that make up a whole woman when put together, it is noticable which "doll" (Tori, Santa, Clyde, Isabel, and Pip) is singing because the songs are very different from eachother. Whether it is the honky-tonk sound of Big Wheel, the dreamy slice of alt. pop that is Bouncing Off Clouds, the angst of Teenage Hustling, the sensuality of You Can Bring Your Dog, or the contemplativeness of the world in Dark Side of the Sun, Tori is able to sound like 5 different people that are channeled through her. Her most creative concept album to date and finally brings back the girl that we grew to love back in 1992.
Wow, She Really Wanted to Make Y Kant Tori Read!

I've been there from the beginning... of Little Earthquakes. Read Sandman, heard about the cd, thought it was powerful... yadda, yadda. In college I got hold of Y Kant Tori Read and it was miserable- but I was impressionable and even that, I thought was cool. Especially liked Cool on Your Island. This album either rips of Tom Waits, "Get of the Cross we could use the Wood" or sounds like immature liberal whining, "Yo George". I think Bouncing Off Clouds is her best song since Concertina. I guess there's no turning back the clock for Tori. She was once the most promising female vocalists of her generation, now? Yikes.
Remember the magazine cover with Tori, PJ Harvey, and Bjork? Who would have thought that PJ would be the most accessible one ten years later.
Potentially Tori's Best Album Yet

American Doll Posse is a huge step up from Tori's previous albums. Most of them were fairly...light-hearted, if you will. Here, we have a lot of songs that are heavy and more punk-rock than anything. Personally, I prefer some of the softer, smoother songs, like "Bouncing Off Clouds" and "Digital Ghost". Overall this is a great album--a fantastic buy.
A Welcome Return

American Doll Posse marks the return of a feisty Tori Amos. These songs are immaculately crafted & beautiful. Definitely check this out.
Good album but not Tori's best

I am somewhat disappointed with this album. The same ideas are pretty much sang about in every song, the beats are jaded and the lyrics predictable. No real stand-out song for me, although 'Bigwheel' is very catchy. It lacks 'that one' amazing heart-stopping Tori song that she has on her other albums like 'pretty good year', 'hey jupiter', 'silent all these years' and 'a sort of fairytale'.
I think Tori sees herself as an anti-Bush/anti-war leader, which is wonderful, but I think she is allowing this to influence her whole musical output. Still, I bet that when I hear these songs live I will love them, since Tori is the ultimate true live performer.

Ok, honestly, my first impression of her new cd was a bit sketchy and I didn't really know if I was going to like it. I loved Beekeeper and this was totally different from that cd. Then, I went back and listened to not only the lyrics, but her older stuff, like Earthquakes, and immeadiatly I changed my impression. Not only has Tori created an awesome cd, but i think that she has enhanced, crystalized, and finally externalized what has taken her, i think, five albums to birthe. Welcome to this new cd.
Best Tori Cd since Choirgirl

At last another rocking Tori collection. Although I like Scarlet's Walk and Beekeeper, I am thrilled that she has returned to her rock and roll background. A very versatile album ,eclectic like most of Tori's records. Some highlights: Almost Rosey, The Beauty of Speed, Bouncing off the clouds, Big Wheel, Father and Son is such a deep and beautiful work. Every track is terrific. Well worth the money and listening. We have not been treated to this quality of her work since From the Choirgirl Hotel. Can't wait to see her in concert!
Reminds me of why I liked Tori in the first place

This album is fantastic - Tori has returned to a place of musical and lyrical excellence. sure, there are a few too many songs, but almost every song on here belongs here. BoC, Digi Ghost, Girl Disappearing, Code Red, and Almost Rosey are standouts.
Good stuff as expected.

My initial impression is this album is better thought out than the previous album, The Beekeeper. The music is interesting to listen to and includes everything from guitars to Tori's signature piano playing. I find I am already fond of 'Secret Spell' and 'Body and Soul'. I think this is going to be a pretty successful album for Tori.
