Reviews

  • This is the album when I fell in love with Joni Mitchell

I had the original LP (long gone) so getting this on iTunes is a real pleasure and a trip down memory lane. Joni hits her stride in this live, smooth performance. My favorite live recording!

I fell in love with JM in the 70's. Wanted to marry her in the 80's. Still want to marry her after re-listening to one of my favorite albums of all time just tonight. It's timeless. Two of my girls sing quite well. I've tried to get them to try a few of JM's. I'm gonna insist now. But I know they'll say we can't. Just like CSN said about doing a Beatles cover... their too good!

Future Donald mentioned the crowd banter that was editied out. I love the banter that was on my original LP. Can anyone tell me where I can find the original, unedited, with banter recording?

This song is a classic. It has all the introspection and character of “Piano Man” and showcases Joni Mitchell’s genius. Unfortunately the song just doesn’t get the air time it richly deserves.

A friend of mine loaned me this cd about ten or more years ago when I was first starting to like Joni Mitchell. I never returned it. These live recordings brought about the jazz style that would usher in legendary albums like "Court and Spark", "Hejira", and "Mingus". Joni was able to repaint some of her early tracks in jazz shades and they sound all the better for it. My favorite song is "You Turn Me On I'm a Radio", I play this song every time I take a long drive out of town. Personally, I love this version of "Woodstock", I have even heard other jazz performers do this song based on this recording. I don't think Joni missed the mark with this version at all. This IS a must have for any Joni Mitchell fan.
  • The iTunes Review Is Wrong!

I bought this album on vinyl when it was first released. When the c.d. version was released, some of the banter with the crowd was edited out, so that the entire album's worth of MUSIC could be put on ONE c.d. (They can fit more on one c.d. these days). Anyway, on the original L.P. release, Joni does introduce JERICHO and LOVE OR MONEY to the crowd as "new" songs, and so, these two tracks are indeed live recordings! (She recorded a studio version of JERICHO a few years later for the album, DON JUAN'S RECKLESS DAUGHTER) It's unfortunate that the talking is mostly ommited, because with it, you get more of a sense of the flow of a concert. That said, the high compliments payed by other customers here are all on the mark. This music is as fresh as it was when I first listened to that L.P. As a matter of fact, like a fine wine, it actually seems to sound better with age. Joni's music and lyrics are gifts to us all, gifts to be treasured.
