I used to have a Doll's record in my collection as a kid, Circa 1974, for no other reason than to look cool. They were such a dangerous band back in the day. Had you told me then that 32 years later that they would still matter or still be alive, I'd said your nuts! The whole package here was done with care. It may have taken a few extra guys to recreate that old Doll feeling, but it holds up surprisingly well. If you a hardcore fan, this really is a dream. If your new to the Doll's saga, I'd say explore the first two albums(of course), read some, see the movie about the reunion, then I think you'll really appreciate the love that went into this CD.

The New York Dolls are one of my favorite bands. Ever. Period. They influence me so much, so it was interesting to hear this album, to say the least. In comparison to their self-titled debut and TMTS, this album pales, in my opinion. However, if I look at this album by itself and ignore previous Dolls work (as after all, missing the three they are, it's hard to really call it the New York Dolls) it's a damn good accomplishment, and a good album.

I heard this album after I saw the new Dolls in concert on television, and they were great (though I should say that Sylvain is NOT as funny as he thinks he is). Anyway, all it meant was that I was not as surprised as I might otherwise have been to find that this is really a great record. The band is less sloppy than they were in the day and Steve Conte is more of a classic lead guitarist than Johnny Thunders was, but the spirit is still there and the melodies take you back. Nothing wrong with that given what we suffer with today. By the way, that's Michael Stipe singing with David on "Dancing on the Lip of a Volcano". I didn't realize it until I saw him on the DVD that accompanies the CD. For my money, that's the best song on the record and it brings a tear to my eye watching and listening to two of the most important singers in post-Beatles rock history remind us why the music can be so vital and so moving.
smart, hard, and proud

so much better than we probably had any right to expect, this album reminds me of the dolls, but it also adds to their legacy with smart songs that rock and sound fresh and timeless at the same time. it's the difference between style and fashion, and the dolls have always had style.
