Strong Country Version of a Great Song

By jim_to_vinyl
While I haven't followed much country lately (it was country and western in my home growing up) other than Lucinda Williams, the Dixie Chicks, and the last recordings by Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn, I really enjoyed this version of the song. It works well in this format and she has a strong voice. It comes close to Rod's version and would do Cat Stevens' original release proud. And I bought it.
The First Cut Is The Deepest

My favorite song on Nashville Star is Whitney Duncan's version of The First Cut Is The Deepest. I like it even more than Rod Stewart's original version of this song. There are no unpleasant surprises on this iTunes song. For example, there were no comments made before she began singing this song. I am very happy with this purchase and I will check out some of her other songs.
