The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads (Live) [Expanded Version]

I only listen to this album to get my Talking Heads fix

It's a great album. Unfortunately, "Electricity (Drugs)" is vastly inferior to "Drugs" on the original vinyl release. That was my favorite song. Total bummer. Two star penalty.

The first 6 tracks have to be top ten for any live recording set on stage ever. The band is tight and melodical. The were young had nothing to lose and left nothing on the stage. Must have for Talking Headers

Easily the best live album I've ever heard. Maybe in the top 5 for my all-time favorite albums.

If you're into the Heads even just a little bit, buy this album. Better than Stop Making Sense, which is really, really good too.

What a revelation this collection is! Takes me back to the heady days of New Wave--I actually saw the Heads in '77 (not knowing who they were beforehand) and was blown away by them live the first time--this captures the clarity of their instrumentation, the absolutely fresh approach to lyrics, and David's adorably quirky stage presence and enunciation. This album is indeed the cream, as I saw them several times in the '78 to '82 period, and it's all here. For a pure dose of the early, angry, too-smart Heads, try the intricate guitar and intense banter of "I'm Not In Love" and don't miss my favorite nerd love song, "The Book I Read" (which reminds me why I married my first wife.) You'll relate when he observes, literally from the 30-thousand foot view, that "I wouldn't live there if they paid me to!" in "The Big Country." A bargain at twice the price.

This is the band with the "sincere" energy and the hunger of individuals not jaded by popularity. It's as if they were doing it for themselves in these more innocent and "real" days of Talking Heads. It's David Byrne not trying to be David Byrne. These were the days! This is a GREAT live project that captures the band in each phase. I was lucky enough to be there for 2 of the live performances represented and they truly were still an underground band. With about 5 bands on before them at the Capital Theater in NJ on a weekend (who even remembers where this place was), us fans were dead tired by the time they came on. Found out later they were angry that the fans were a bit dead but I doubt they realized the crap we sat through before they came on many hours later. Central Park shocked us fans as we were used to the four piece and what? I brought a ton of friends to see them for the first time...I wasn't sure at that time...I liked the foursome but what the heck I adapted and enjoyed the new direction after a while...my friends hated it.

This album offers an extremely good sampling of some of Talking Heads' greatest works presented in a coherent manner. The clarity of the sound quality is off the hook for LIVE SONGS. I have been listening to Talking Heads since before I was born and finally decided that I liked the band too much not to own all the albums I could find. The songs that I have never heard are great and give me new insight into what, musically, this band is capable of. The songs I have heard over and over and thought I new proved to me that with a few simple changes, a band can create something new from something old and timeless. For those holding off on buying this because you already own most of the songs on different albums, I encourage you to buy this one. You will not be disappointed.

They all are right. In fact, not only is this the Heads best live album, it may well be the Heads best album. I mean, Remain in Light, its only compitition isn't as funky and (maybe) just a little more arty than the versions here. (Plus, this album doesn't include "The Overload"...) Problem: they omitted the "pleasent" intro to "Crosseyed and Painless" that was on the LP version--and made the whole song! Thus, I dock it a notch cos the LP version's better...
