At least the lute playing is good.

Frankly, I find it incredibly distasteful and mildly offensive that any old Strauss n' Schubert singing tenor thinks that he has the proper style and historical know-how for singing Dowland and his contemporaries. This music requires subtlety and a certain degree of sensitivity that simply does NOT come through. That is not to say that Mr. Pears is a poor singer, for I hardly think so, but he should continue singing Britten and leave early music to those who know what they're doing.
