Having seen The Code live on several ocassions, I am glad to see that Mr. Horowitz released this collection of tracks. The 'Zappa meets Raymond Scott by way of Charlie Haden' material that he played live with the band is refocused here with voice and media samples taking an often central part in the compositions. "7 Days to Better Golf" has a nice Bush of Ghosts feeling. This sometimes betrays an older sensibility, but Horowitz takes from the 80s sampling generation mostly the interesting bits, weaving the sound sources into the compsition in a way that is reminiscent of Scott Johnson's "John Somebody" but with an even more playful approach. No doubt Horowitz's work in television and cartoons has brought out the Looney Tunes in him.
