Gregorio Allegri: Miserere
4
By MatthewJP
I was preparing my sermon for the First Sunday of Lent. The Miserere is chanted between the first and second Readings. The story about 12 year old Mozart fascinated me and so I wanted to hear the Miserere that he heard at the Vatican, and boldly copied it from memory. I listened to samples of all of the performances that are on iTunes. This one has the best sound. The performance is lively and the superior audio helped me make my decision.
This Miserere was famous and the Vatican forbade anyone to copy the music. When the Pope heard about young Mozart he was impressed with Woflgang's talent and praised the boy for his talents.
