Naveed

This is hands down one of my favorite albums ever. This album is so underrated and stands alone as such a great piece of art. The music was so different than any thing out at the time and it still seems ahead of the times now. Still better than anything that is popular now days.

Everybody has different meanings of every Genre in Music and different opinions. But, this is in my mind the best Indie album ever or at least the '90's! It's just as good as Clumsy, well totally different and not as popular. Hits such as "Starseed" and "Naveed" have the same feel as the less popular songs such as "Hope", "The Birdman", "Supersattelite" and "Denied". The thing that makes this album so great is that there is virtually no "Studio Magic" done to them and whether you hear them perform these live in 1995 or now. Maida's voice sounds the same, as well as the instruments. Absolutely Outstanding Throughout!

Back in the mid 90's I caught this band opening up for the mighty Van Halen. They hit the stage in an un-assuming fashion. Young, green, and not yet fully experienced at playing in a 25k seat arena. They had zero stage presence, and at that point a catalog of songs that consisted of the album Naveed...which wound up being their saving grace. The band launched into Denied and 30 seconds in I knew I HAD to find their CD. I had one problem with that. They were a Canadian band that had no exposure in the states. Months later I found Naveed in a cutout bin at a CD shop (do they still exist?) and bought it for 4 bucks. What played from my speakers was 11 songs each one better than the one before it. Highlights include The Birdman, a great uptempo song that kicks off the album and gives the listener the impression that OLP knows how to write a song. The most memorable moments are Starseed, Hope, Is it Safe, and Julia. End to end, this is a great album, it is well written, and has a solid production sound. Sonically you can hear each instrument perfectly. 15 years later it has stood the test of time and can probably be considered along Spiritual Machines as their best effort.

Our Lady Peace is one of those bands with so many great songs, your favorite will change every couple of months. This CD is definitely worth owning, as Starseed and Naveed are two of my absolute favorite alternative rock songs ever, Starseed having a lot of fast paced energy and Naveed being slower, but full of raw power. Birdman, Denied, SuperSatellite, Is It Safe, Denied, and Julia are also great. Out of 11 songs, this CD has two that may become your all-time favorites and 6 more that are very catchy.

This is one of those albums I could listen to forever and never get tired of.

The best song played was "Tomorrow Never Knows" in the movie The Craft but I can't find it anywhere but the soundtrack for the movie!

First of all, great album of course. And also I must say I don't know how much longer OLP will last. With "Healthy in Paranoid Times" the band criticized there work, saying they nearly broke up in the process of the album. Then came "A Decade" a greatest hits package, which (for me) means Raine is saying "we're kinda done" [NOTE: RAINE MAIDA DID NOT REALLY SAY THAT!!] And hopefully he wont..... EVER! Sure, there new album comes out in 2009 and they say it's good and "Burn,Burn " there first single since 2006 comes out Winter '08 but still my fellow OLP fanatics, don't expect much more. Who knows! I could be totally wrong, but that's what I think but whatever. Thank God for OLP!

Where is Spiritual Machines? for some reason it isn't in iTunes' catalog.

ITS JUST HARD TO EXPLAIN HOW AMAZING AND POWERFUL THIS ALBUM IS WITH WORDS. EVERY SONG JUST ROCKS. THIS BAND SHOULD BE IMMORTALIZED FOR THEIR WORK HERE.

If you've heard of OLP before, you probably know them has a power rock/pop ballad band from hearing "Clumsy", "Superman's Dead", "Life", "Somewhere Out There" or "Innocent" on the radio. Nothing wrong with those songs, however, this OLP's 1st effort was indeed their best effort to date. A better balance of hard rockin' songs w/ slower ballads on this album than subsequent efforts. Three harder tracks that never saw the light of day "The Birdman", "Neon Crossing" and "Julia". Plus "Starseed" which saw some radio play. This is OLP's finest hour. Add it to your collection so that I can say "told you so!"
