Piano man.... indeed.

One of the truly great musical talents of our time. My wish (as a classical pianist) is that he be remembered more for his classical compositions than his pop music. It would be such a waste to our generation should it be forgotten in the haze of "Still rock and roll to me"
Good selection

The music is awesome, but the recording has some low end rumble in it that can be a bit distracting.
Billy Joel - Truly the Piano Man

I'm not a student of music, I'm not a huge fan of classical music and I love Billy Joel as a singer, songwriter and now composer. I've read reviews of this album on several different sites and their seems to be two schools of thought. One is Billy is ripping off the classics and two that he is paying homage to them, but neither of schools seem to give him credit for what he has done here.
I have enjoyed some classical music throughout my life and have recently got the bug for it again. In the process of this rediscovery of artists like Chopin, Pachelbel, Mozart, Grieg, and Beethoven among others, I came across Jim Brickman's work on the piano which reminded me of my favorite singer/songwriter's album of Classical music. I purchased this without hesitation and have listened to it several times through.
Fantasies and Delusions is an album that expresses Billy's love for the piano and what it can do. He uses complex (to my ears) structures balanced with delicate strains to evoke a mood. If you go back and listen to Nocturne from Cold Spring Harbor, you will see that not only is it a foreshadow to this album, but you will also see how much he has grown as a composer and artist. Billy's work here, I think, is reflective of his life and experiences just like his other albums have been, but it also a testament to his talent. Instead of an album of him playing standards, he has composed his own work and put it out there for the world to see. To hear a composition like this in this era of autotune, lipsynched concerts and electronic media is a joy to hear and experience. Billy and Richard have created music that will stand the test of time and that will be repeating on my playlists of instrumental, piano and Billy Joel music.
Take this album for what it is, a brilliant collection of original compositions by a man who loves the piano and knows how to create beautiful music with it. I would love him to put out another. :)
The master strikes again

Billy Joel is an incredible musician and composer. Even if he himself doesn't play these peices, (stated by Billy himself that he could not play these peices very well) they are still his works and musical images. Richard Joo plays these peices flawlessly and with such passion. These two will surely go down in muscial history right up there with the Beatles.

A true classical modern composer.
I've been a fan of Billy Joel from the beginning. So many songs creating stories and images that remain timeless to me. This work is no different with one exception, it is so much more amazing. Mr. Joel is by far the most incredible composer since Rachmaninoff. All of Billy Joel's music will be with us for a long time yet this music holds true to it's nature. Classic in every way. You sense the fusion of all of the Masters in his work and hopefully with a good ear you'll hear the individual that comes out the way he does in every other album.
Thank you Mr. Joel
Somewhat derivative, but still impressive

Billy Joel displays his writing versatility in this collection of piano compositions, played by Richard Joo. (Although Richard's playing is technically excellent, I suspect that Billy could have played his own compositions with a bit more emotion.) The compositions are quite good, with most displaying rather obvious influences. The best example of this is the Invention in C Minor, which would sound right at home with Rachmaninov's 24 piano preludes. The Dublinesque Air plays out as a series of variations on Billy's own "And So It Goes" from Storm Front with a hint of Chopin. Another reviewer was reminded of Schumann in some pieces, and I agree. Overall, this is a fine album for classical piano lovers who happen to be Billy Joel fans.
Billy Joel Great in any Genre

Just another example of his great talent. The music sounds as if he enjoyed playing it not just needed to. I am really looking forward to his next classical release.
Great Album...ONE song available?

Basically I liked it.
Not as much as I hoped, but it was better than I feared it might be.
I expected it to have more melodies that would stick in my mind, but there were only 1 or 2 that I felt did that. Parts reminded me of Robert Schumann. But overall, I enjoyed it, and it's a nice 1st classical album. I hope he does more.
