When i first heard this album I thought it was just ok, but at the time I was still maturing my taste of music. Today, as a muscian, I can honestly say that this is one of the best albums I've ever heard. My favorite and most appreciated tracks would have to be Fire Garden Suite, Little Alligator, Aching Hunger, The Crying Machine, Dyin' Day, Blowfish, Genocide, and Warm Regards! I enjoy pretty much every song on the album. This album also has amazing guitar work, which is no surprise to any vai fan! I highley recomend this album to all musicians and all people who want to hear such a great and creative masterpiece!

Fire Garden is by far one of my favorite albums by Vai, but seeing as how I have all of them and love them all, it gets hard to choose my favorite.

This is a totally outstanding album that simultaneously forces the listener to face the darkness of his own soul while simultaneously being lifted to heaven. This is an outstanding introduction to the guitar mastery, songwriting brilliance, and highly underrated vocals of Steve Vai - the greatest living rock guitarist.
The missing track is the epic 9 minute "Fire Garden Suite". You realize that if you download every song it will cost you $16, and you'll still be short a song? Just buy the CD. But if you want to check out some of the tracks, the best instrumental tracks are "The Crying Machine" and "Dying Day", and the best vocal tracks are "LIttle Alligator", "All About Eve", "Aching Hunger", and "Brother".

My Favorite Vai Album... right next to 'Passion And Warfare' EVERY SONG on this CD is great; which is something you don't say very often.... Vai fan's and non-Vai fan's alike will LOVE this record; if not at first then it you WILL later, as these songs are the type to grow on you! Especially, 'Bangkok' and 'Fire Garden Suite' those two sort of run together, and they're guaranteed to blow your mind!!!

This CD is truly mind-blowing. From what I have heard from Vai fans, it seems as if this CD was "muddled" and "a mess." When I bought this disc, I thought all of these guys were idiots. This CD is brilliant. The first instrumental half was awesome, and then the vocal half finishes it off amazingly as well.
The highlights from the first half:
The Crying Machine- Sounds like "The Crush of Love" by Joe Satriani, but it's ten times better. Funky sort of song that rocks.
Blowfish- The guitar here is done with a double pitch shifter, giving it a techno/clubbing feel. It rocks, to say the least.
Bangkok- Good song, but truly just a start to.........
Fire Garden Suite-............the best song on this album and Vai's greatest performance. This song is bloody brilliant, best instrumentation I have ever heard on any song. The acoustic guitar/piano part, "Angel Food," is one of the best moments in music ever.
The highlights on the second half are:
All About Eve- Great ballad, a little dark, but it's bloody brilliant.
Aching Hunger- Best vocal song on the album, it's sort of techno-ish in the drums, and the guitar is sweet.
Genocide- Great stadium rocker. Catchy chorus.
Overall, a must buy. Recommended for any fans of guitar and Steve Vai. Too bad the best song (Fire Garden Suite) isn't just downloadable on its own.

Perhaps Vai's most ambitious work to date. This album has some incredible songs with diversity and complexity. The more you listen the more this album will grow on you. The composition work is sophisticated and soulful. High points for me were tracks 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, 14 and 18 but as a whole it really is incredible material. Being a huge Vai fan it is difficult to pick favorites but this is probably my personal favorite for studio material.

I listened to this album when it first came out and had it only in cassette. Now that it's in the itunes store I get the chance to really listen to the quality of Vai's playing. Besides the fact that his technique is incredible, he's one of the few guitar players who can perform with such musicality and multiple colors. His album "Passion and Warfare" has as many varieties. But this one has many more conceptual themes.
