Sayonara
3
By Lester Banger
On their farewell album, this is the sound of the band trying to do one thing & frontman Shane MacGowan obstinately trying to do another. In short, it sounds like 2 different albums on one. Both parties seem bored with the same old formula & are seeking to move beyond. With mixed results. The MacGowan penned tunes are the best here, proof that Shane hadn't quite given up interest despite rather uninspired & dare I say inebriated vocals. Tracks to download? Sunnyside, Sayonara, Ghost, Hell's, Lorca, Siam, Rain St & Five Green. Of the extra tracks, Bastard Landlord is vintage Pogues. So as an album---a mixed bag. But not without a few essentials.
