Rising Queen of Metal

In my 20 years of listening to metal music, I have never felt so much emotion while listening to someone sing like I have with Maphra.
I only recently stumbled upon this beautiful queen of metal through will YouTube algorithm. It started as a Youtube Short of an individual reacting to her in her cover of Doomed. I instantly got goosebumps.
I quickly searched her name and found her Youtube channel simply named “Maphra”. I noticed there was only a hand full of videos uploaded to her channel, so I started off from the beginning with her cover of Bad Omens “Specter”. LET ME TELL YOU. When I listened to that, oh my laaawd. I sat in silence for a bit after listening to that. Then she had a cover of Amy Lee’s “End of You” ft. Poppy, Amy Lee, and Courtney Laplante. I’ll be honest. I whole heartedly believe Maphra’s cover is way better than the original performance not just in talent, but in the convection of emotion through her voice. This brings me to another aspect about her I love.
Maphra’s convection of emotion. Her ability to make you feel things that you buried 10 years ago. Her ability to make you feel like she is individually connecting with you. Her ability to, without fail, make your eyes water and give you goosebumps. This, this was not something I’ve EVER experienced before while listing to someone’s performance.
Her beautifully angelic soft vocals give presence to someone who is loving, broken, and vulnerable. Her unique, raw, and aggressive screams convey pain, anger, and fear. What’s most impressive is that, it’s not just any old metal scream. Hers, you can hear her voice behind it. You can hear that it’s her. You can feel the power behind it.
Let’s talk about her firm grasp on her limits and her control over her voice.
With each song she has covered, listening from beginning to end, she has proven time and time again that she has full control over voice. As you are listening, you would think, “there’s no way she could top this performance” but then she pushes out another cover and BOOM! Proves me wrong.
She has the ability to switch between her warm, angelic, soft voice to her demonic, dark-side fueled scream almost as if she has a slider bar. Not only can she softly transition from beautiful to demonic, but she can switch between the two like she’s flipping a light switch, which makes you feel like her inner demons are fighting for a chance in the spotlight.
With all these wonderful talents that she has, with her control over her voice, I cannot wait for her to release an original album. I hope she goes on tour because I’ll be the first to buy tickets.
We are witnessing the birth of a new generation of metal and the rise of a Queen to lead us through it.
Keep it up Maphra!
