Anytime Apple releases anything by The Beatles, we’re buying it. As AI advances it will only enhance the quality of the music we enjoy. Who ever thought we’d get to hear a stereo “Love Me Do?” Life is good.

3 stars only because it's The Beatles, but for me, there's nothing on Anthology 4 worth having. Personally, I never cared for hearing early takes of Beatles' songs I already have (with the exception of a few), but at least when volumes 1-3 came out in the '90s, each volume included songs that had never been on any album before (and I'm not talking about unreleased early takes of released songs, but actual songs that were never released in any form). Anthology 4 offers nothing new, when it absolutely could have! Yes there's the 2025 mixes of "Free As a Bird" and "Real Love", but they are poor mixes meant to be improvements, but actually pale in comparison to the '90s mixes. Yet, there are still more never-released Decca songs from 1962, or 1967's never-released "Carnival of Light", or George's "Sour Milk Sea" using the music from the 1968 Jackie Lomax version that George, Paul and Ringo all performed on, but swapping out Lomax's vocals with George's vocals from the never-released demo in the same key (not the Esher demo in a different key), or the never-released Paul-George-Ringo Anthology song from the mid-'90s called "All For Love". Some people say that if a song doesn't have all 4 Beatles performing on it that it's not really a Beatles song, but there are songs from the albums "Help" clear up to "Abbey Road" that don't have all 4 Beatles performing, and sometimes it was just 1 Beatle (like "Yesterday", "Within You Without You", "Julia"), yet they were all still Beatles songs. As for "Now and Then", Anthology 4 just gives us the same version that came out in 2023, when it should have been the extended version where Paul and Ringo completed John's "I don't wanna lose you..." pre-choruses, because the 2023 version was absolutely butchered without those pre-choruses. Anyway, Anthology 4 was a major missed opportunity :(

The “Jeff Lynne Mastered Version” of Real Love over-boosts Lennon, giving the harmonies a whiny, nasal taste. It kills the nostalgic-transcendent flow of the original in favor of a gravelly, undue coarsening.

Me now being an old dude of 70 have pretty much heard all of the Beatles catalog from every facet. With older brother and sister the Beatles always played. This is one band in particular that I thoroughly enjoyed all the anthology albums. To me it’s very cool how there songs came to fruition. Helter Skelter for example there are quite a few takes of this song the latest I never heard. Even have purchased the Yellow Dog cd’s which were bootlegs before all this material was released. Just looking forward to hearing the rest of the tracks. Giles Martin continued after his father George Anthology 4 is a perfect addition to the rest of the series. Just finished listening to the whole album. So much more great music to hear and the best part is again before the final Takes. I predict a Anthology 5 in the future. Personally I think Giles left Rubber Soul for 2026 because it was released in December of ‘65 for that reason. He did give you a teaser with In My Life, Nowhere Man and If I needed Someone . We shall see.
