Three of a perfect pair

They say good things come in threes, and Saint Etienne albums are no exception. They first gave us "Tales from Turnpike House", followed by "Words and Music" (in my top 10 albums of all time), and finally..."International". They make up the perfect pop trio -- all very similar, yet all so completely distinct. "International" is a fabulous, fun romp through the realms of electronica. Starting with "Glad", "Dancing Heart", and "The Go Betweens" (a wonderful duet with the incomparable Nick Heyward), the album meanders thru wonderful, feel-good tunes for 40 minutes. Ironically, the high point of the album comes from the its lone ballad "Fade", a both lyrically and musically simple song that somehow is not only the best song on the album, but possibly one of the best songs the group has ever done. As always, Sarah's voice is perfectly on point, and if this is actually their farewell album, it will be cherished for many decades to come.
Under normal circumstances, I would've given this album 4 stars; but "Fade" made it a 5-star album. On a 1-10 scale, I'd literally rate "Fade" a 12. It's just that good.
