Holy cow! My favorite album by far! My absolute favorite album of theirs was their self titled “Nothing More” album for a very long time. I loved how it dealt with grief and looking inward for motivation as well as the hypocrisy of the world in general. So, to my surprise, I went into this album knowing I would like it (like I love the rest of their music) but still thinking the self titled would win out. And I’ve gotta say as much as “Nothing More” will always have a soft spot in my heart, “Carnal” feels like the best of all aspects of this band. The lyricism is smart and heart-breaking while also being wildly uplifting in the second half of the album. Really gets down the riffs and gives breathing room to ruminate with the intermissions without feeling like filler like some of the other albums do. Also, I love the direct address of the listener in “Stuck”, literally feels like they’re reaching out a hand and giving permission to air out grievances. All I can say in the end? This band has grown with its listeners and in turn LISTENS to what their audiences are struggling with and struggles with them. Truly a band for the people.
