Yes. It feels unfair to say masterpiece before the album is six months old. The archetecture of St Vincent's lyrics, melodic and tonal runs, sound effects, and rhythmic weavings build songs that at completion stand out from what other artists are doing right now. The hard work and hours of selected sounds worked into each song is powerful, if not emotional when realized. From the opening note, this album stands out from her own library and gives clear footing for recognizing St Vincent as more than singer and songwriter, but as an artist.

No, her music is not for everyone, but there are few people out there making music who continually explore what they do as musicians and take chances with their material. She is one of those. Angular, melodic, jagged, beautiful, it is all those things and more. I'd never listened to her music before seeing her as the opening act for Roxy Music a couple years ago and since then, I have loved everything I've heard. She takes chances and pushes herself, what more could you ask an artist to do. And watch the videos, too.
