Bonafide

Hard to imagine this starlet was only nineteen when this was recorded. The opening four tracks are great to dance to at the club, with your lady, or to complete your workout playlist. The opening title track has a cute jazzy feel, as our singer croons to us about "jizzable jazz." The rest of "Bonafide" are quiet storm ballads. Strange how "Someone to Love" (duet with Babyface) charted to #32 on year end Billboards in 1995, but I never hear it on FM radio anymore. Some tunes, especially "Pants Off" and "Pretty Girl," explore his intense sensual desires, but these lyrics were still written in a classy and smooth style. Certainly a soulful debut winner from this Rhode Island native who was clearly so mature for his age.

I love this album, what can I say? Takes me back I time to the mid '90's every time I listen to this album. A flood of memories and feelings start rushing out of my mind. I was in my last years in high school '95 - '97 in LA. All the girls I dated, that feeling comes back. Ironically enough "They don't know" was filmed in Downey, CA near where I grew up. My date sound track: Burning 4 U!

I was only 14 when this album came out and I got it. Back in those days all we had was male and female groups. I still know every word to every song don't know who took this album from me. I think it's time I got it back fav track Pretty Girl ft. BabyFace

this man is so underrated. this is what r&b is supposed to sound like..he can really sing for real. i miss the 90's. i have all his albums & they never play out or get old with me. i love Jon B.
