This is NOT christian music! This is quite the opposite of Biblical truth.

Having gone through my own deconstruction, I thoroughly relate to this record. This collection of songs is brutally and painfully honest. Perhaps other records exist like this, but it’s the first time I’ve heard anyone say these things in song form. It leaves me hopeful that faith can be done differently.

I remember reading a quote (Chesterton, perhaps?) about how some ideas are like mouthwash, where you're intended to swish it around and be refreshed by it, but then spit it out. In a sense, I worry about people ingesting the deconstructed notions presented in this album, but ultimately the songs feel more like swishing around orange juice, right after you've brushed your teeth. Webb has a terrific voice, and while his musical motifs here don't run much of a gamut, they carry a clean sound, perfect for carrying meaningful melodies. But the words themselves just don't often convey much substance. We end up with a whole lot of making-God-in-our-own-image, when from the beginning of time, it's been the other way around.

Honest, thoughtful, genuine- Derek is asking the questions that need to be asked and inspiring my faith daily. On top of that, this record stands up against anything in the folk, singer-songwriter, indie-folk genres.

This is complete trash. Nothing here glorifies God,it’s more like “Hey look at me,I don’t believe in God,but I can’t stop talking about Him either!” Some people just want to be controversial, when they’ve run out of ideas and meaningful things to say they turn to the very things they weren’t able to live up to and undermine them. Derek,if you don’t believe in God,fine but go away and sing to your crowd elsewhere and quit labeling your music as “christian”, Judging by the message in your music, your not a believer and don’t want to be one,it’s okay but move on. 🙃

While Derek’s style of music isn’t my type these lyrics are profound.. Many many will feel seen and feel this album resonate in their soul..
