  • DM is back with a vengeance!!

I’ve been listening to DM since 1984. No other band caught my attention the way their music did. Not The Cure, not The Smiths or any other. Although I do like them, it just doesnt appeal to me musically the way Mode’s music does. Albums like Black Celebration, Music For The Masses, Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion made Depeche Mode a force to reckon with. This album only adds to that!! So many people are so hung up on Alan Wilder’s departure, but that was a long time ago!! They have moved on, grown musically, and risked it all by experimenting with different approaches to music. Some have been good and some not so good. Ultra, Spirit, Exciter, and Playing the Angel each have their own sound and style. Delta Machine was, in my opinion, not their best but had some decent sounds. “Heaven” is pure DM though. Now this!! Memento Mori is truly a return of classic DM. Dave’s vocals five this album such a feel and you can almost see Martin painting the pictures with his songwriting. Each song has its own story. Wagging Tongue has to be the absolute best on this album. My wife and I went to see them in Rome, Miami, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Los Angeles. After each show we wanted more and more. It was even better having my kids with me and seeing my daughter sing along, she has become a devotee. In San Diego Dave even pointed at her during “World in My Eyes” and said “Yeah you know that song!” As she waved my ‘86 Black Celebration tour shirt! Depeche Mode has been the soundtrack of my life. It’s going to be hard when they call it to an end. I hope it never happens! This album has really brought back the sound of Depeche Mode. RIP Andrew Fletcher….I still have the lighter you gave me in Las Cruces back in 2002.

I wished & wanted to love this album & give it 5 stars. And I tried, but unfortunately after repeated listens my reluctant conclusion is I think it's a lackadaisical & uninspired album with only a song or two that I'll go back to and listen to again. Ahh well, maybe next one (if there is one.)

That for sure it was old music I’d missed somehow. The sound is so classic. But it’s new and it’s awesome.

Hipe........ Needed more work on many of the songs. I predict a slow dissolve of the 2 OG's
  • May not be their best…

But they still have introduced music that has me listening. I liked the production on this album.
  • Plenty to enjoy as a DM fan

This album is full of lovely melodies that get stuck in my head. Easily becoming a favorite album by DM, in no time at all! Inspired, modern and memorable. Loved “Ghosts Again”, and it’s backed here by “Don’t Say You Love Me”. Gorgeous dark electronica. The ending is huge, too. An early contender for album of 2023.
  • An instant DM classic!!

This is by far one of their best albums EVER!! The more I listen, the more I absolutely LOVE this album. The lyrics are so introspective and cover the entire landscape of what we come to expect from DM. Has been on continuous play ever since it’s release date.
