You can write endless pop songs, call yourself a preachers daughter. Lament over Jesus abandoning you. He never did. You abandoned what you know is the truth and that will follow you and haunt you for the rest of your life. When you look in the mirror and wonder if you’re passing?? You can’t fool the only one who’s opinion matters. That’s God calling you home. We all have our crosses to bear— self induced suffering is not marginalized pain.

This album is so creative and more the definitely deserves multiple awards for the time and effort that was put it into it. I can feel all the love and terror from each song. It’s like a movie for me whenever I listen to this. Please keep going!

The plot is thick, important, and unfolding, the music is grand and devastatingly beautiful. I live here now.

I came across the song “Sun Bleached Fries” on a post that someone made mocking a particular religion’s excessive demands of “Godliness” in its followers. I didn’t care for or about the post but that SONG. It was too beautiful to not find out more. I headed over to iTunes to listen to more from the artist. It was only once I was couple of songs in and read the album’s synopsis that I understood: Ethel has deconstructed from the very umbrella of religion that that IG post was referring to. Each song on this album is more hypnotizing and haunting than the next. I love music that takes you on a journey and listening to “Preacher’s Daughter” made me feel like I was in the middle of the country some time in the past, staying at seedy roadside motels, dusting red clay off of my clothes and learning some really tough life lessons along the way. It’s gorgeously made.
