I have read many bad reviews about Aloe's debut album "Shine Through", I have to say that this album froom front to back is one of the best Indie albums for a while. Aloe is best left under ground if no one can appreciate his music.
  • Apparently this is as near to perfection as it gets...

For me, this is exactly what hip-hop/rap should be. Not that I'm an expert by any mean, but I'm fond of experimental sounds like this. And what I can say is that despite the changes in pace, style and setting on this album, they all flow together perfectly with few exceptions. I personally give most of the tracks on this album four or five stars. Busking, Patria Mia and Shine Through are my only three star tracks. My personal favs are Whole World, Bailar-Scene 1, Nascimento (Birth)-Scene 2, Want Me and I'm Beautiful. Caged Birdsong is quite poignant in it's own right and should be listed among one of the best hip-hop tracks discussing social commentary. I find all elements of this album enjoyable, and bought it because I'm beautiful was a single of the week on iTunes. I had no idea that I'd actually grow to love this so much. Albums like this, ones by Angie Stone, Jamie Liddel, The Roots, India.Arie, Heather Headley, Remy Shand and Leela James are the people who should be gaining attention when it comes to the world of Hip-Hop and Rap. Not the commercially contrived likes of Kanye and 50 Cent. This album just flows so smoothly and blends rap and spoken word and intimate vocals with perfection. It's great for any mood or scene really. Listen closely or put it on at a party and watch people move.

Aloe Blacc, 1 half of Emanon, MC, producer, and great party host of the legendary LA summertime party, "The Do-Over." Great album for the soulful minded. Check him out live...you will be happy.

Wow, I accidently heard this album two months ago, and it has not left my 5 disc rotation. Smooth and hard at the same time. I love "Arrive" and "Want Me". I don't how we can get Aloe Blacc to cross over, but urban needs his type of vibe. I was compelled to write a review, which I never do.
