  • Typical Medieval Composition...

Jerry Goldsmith is an okay composer. The guy has few credits to his name, and half those films are terrible. Now, First Knight is your typical medieval composition with fanfare and cliche horns. Sometimes it works on here, but this is such a small collection, it's just NOT worth buying. If you've never heard of any other medieval scores, check this one out, but overall, it's forgettable, and very few people (as you can tell there's only 7 reviewers -- including myself) will adore this film.

I have been looking for masterly crafted epic songs for a long time, and this was titled Never Surrender on another cd.....it's the best epic track I have found recently and believe me, I have looked!

One of the most amazing aspects of Goldsmith's the First Knight score is the sweeping themes. This is one of those scores that really stand alone from the film. This album contains little of the material heard during the film. Sadly, at the moment this album version is the only LEGAL version out there. A major problem with this album is that Lancelot's theme is not heard once. Very sad... for it is very good. Hopefully they will release a complete version so that everyone may experience this amazing score.

  • One of Goldsmith's Best

Due to bad reviews, more for the casting of Richard Gere than anything else, this fabulous score suffered for it. With robust fanfares and a tender love theme, the score sweeps across the sonic landscape in a wel-mixed and recorded album. The only drawback is that it's a scant ten tracks out of the wealth of wonderful music heard in the film. One would hope after Goldsmith's death we would see a comprehensive release of all his music. Four stars due to the length, but Five stars for the music!
