  • Satriani's Best Ever

Having been a Satriani fan since the late 80's, I always look forward to Joe's records and have them all. Honestly, his last several albums before Crystal Planet were a bit of a let down. I thought Stuart Hamm contributed greatly to this record, but unfortunately has been absent on Joe's studio work since. The record is very dense with a wide breath of musical ideas. Every now and then Joe will throw in stuff that seems silly or corny and out of place on his records, but not on this one. Some of his records seem to be thrown together inbetween other projects with songs that are stretched out like iprovisational jams, but Crystal Planet is solid and inspired. The songs are compact, serious and focused. Love Thing, Rasberry Delta Jam, Train of Angles, Crstal Planet, With Jupiter in Mind and Trundrumbalind are my favorites, but other people are as strongly drawn to other songs. There's no weak moments on this album. Satriani proves his musical dominance within his genre full force on this record. There may be no better rock instrumental album period.
  • Still the best

OKay, it's 2013, Satch has released a number of new albums but this one... Still the best one he's ever created. Not to diminish his other works, some of which are in fact more popular, but in my opinion, this album has it all. Not a bad track on here. The use of notes in this on some of the more "B" sides songs is musicianship at it's finest.

Echoing many others here...this is his best work, one stellar track after another.
  • Not just for musicians anymore...

With producer Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Hinder, Van Halen, Metallica) at the helm, it's obvious that the goal with this record was to broaden Satriani's audience with a more modern, mainstream sound, and the end result was a huge success. This album features better production, better engineering and better chemistry than any of his previous releases, and also contains some of the most incredibly vocal and emotive guitar sounds ever caught on tape. The studio's natural ambience is brilliantly captured and really helps glue the entire record together, giving it a classic "band in a room" sound, lending an authenticity and organic vibe that has been sorely lacking on past efforts. This is Satriani's finest work to date, and easily the most accessible instrumental rock record in recent memory. Beautifully recorded and incredibly well performed, this album promises to find its way into the CD collections of many an instrumental rock fan, and maybe a few who just think it's a great sounding record. Standout tracks include: "Crystal Planet", "Lights of Heaven", "Ceremony", "A Train Of Angels", "Psycho Monkey" and "Time".

This is the best Joe Satriani album. Please, if you like melodies, or guitar, or music, download these songs, if not the whole album (and in this order): 1. Crystal Planet 2. Time 3. Love Thing 4. House Full of Bullets Listen to these songs. Know them. Then watch the Live in San Fransisco version of these songs, and be even more amazed. peace!

This is right up there with Surfing w/ the Alien (his album from 1987). Satriani delivers melodies that are as haunting as they are energizing. His guitar work is clean and polished. He never fails to impress. Favorite Songs: Crystal Planet Ceremony Up In the Sky House Full of Bullets Love Thing A Train of Angels Lights of Heaven

I don't know what I can say about this album, but it's completely amazing. It has a different sound from any other CD I've ever heard. Every song on here is really good, but my personal favorite is "Raspberry Jam Delta-V".
